Ever seen a starfish walk before?
The starfish
is making its way back to the ocean after being washed up by the tide.
Now unfortunately they aren’t the fastest critters (this video is
slightly sped-up)

This water bear was waving at me to get my attention! Isn’t she the cutest?!
Water
bears are tiny animals with ever tinier feet, they have little claws on
each foot. And this one kept waving at me with the tiny claw-paw!
You
can see one of her pitch-black eyes, there is another one on the other
side of her head but it doesn't show on the clip. And all the round
things you see inside her body are called the storage cells and, they
mainly store fat and when the animals cannot find food or when their
energy requirement increases, they use the stored energy and the storage
cells shrink in size. Plus, these cells also act like immune cells and
can consume bacteria that found a way into the animal’s body.
Fascinating, isn’t it!?
I got some great news today! My book is
already reprinting to meet the demand in the US, and the publisher is
organizing a bunch of virtual book tours. I am so excited, June will be a
busy month for me! Please click the link on my bio to pre-order your
copy to support me.
Thank you so much for reading!
Best,
James Weiss
The
moment we’ve all been waiting for 👀 Oliver the oligochaete worm making
some noms! Gotta eat your daily portion of Vorticella
Aquatic annelid worms are really tolerant to
polluted waters and can be found in mud and all type of freshwater or
marine habitats. Some specialized species can even be found as commensal
symbionts of molluscs, crayfishes and even tree frogs!
Oliver
is a segmented animal, meaning his body is made of small repetitive
units and all of them possess a pair of primitive kidneys and components
of circulatory and nervous system.
